The Great Wall of China

Learnex, English Forever ¡Aprende Inglés para Siempre!

Have you ever been on the Great Wall Of China? My friend Elena has been there. She told me that, it was a marvelous experience. She said that It had been one of the best experience in her life, however it was an  exhausting experience. She got surprised to be on the top and being surrounded by green landscapes. Also she got impressed by the perfect alignment of the walls.

The Great Wall is more than 2,300 years. It was constructed  by the Ming Dynasty.  It is named a ‘Wall’, but actually, it is not only a simple ‘Wall’. Historical facts show that it was a huge fortification, consisting of overlapping walls and trenches for blocking enemies, watchtowers and beacon towers for signals and communication, fortresses for head-on battles, and barracks to accommodate soldiers.

My friend Elena told me about one  legend from  The Great Wall of China. It  is  the story of «Men Jiangnu’s Bitter Weeping» whose husband passed  away building the wall. Her weeping was so bitter that a section of the wall collapsed, revealing her husband’s bones so she could bury them.

In conclusion, I love travelling, for this reason I recommend  to visit China. Hopefully I will accomplish this  goal one day,  meanwhile I suggest to read the blog and learn new vocabulary.

  • Bury: To put a dead body into the ground.
  • Landscape: A large area of countryside, especially in relation to its appearance.
  • Meanwhile: Until something expected happens, or while something else is happening.
  • Overlapping: To cover something partly by going over its edge; to cover part of the same space.

  • Would you like to walk on the Great Wall of China?
