Movies that Rock: Jurassic Park

Learnex, English Forever ¡Aprende Inglés para Siempre!

It’s a 1993 massive blockbuster directed by Steven Spielberg and tells the story of palaeontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), who are chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind, billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.

John Hammond had started with the idea of developing «consumer biologicals» which involved duplicating and cloning genetically engineered dinosaurs for a profit by creating an amusement park with dinosaurs, which never makes a public opening, as events get out of hand during a visit by private parties. Scientists find they are unable to predict the behaviours, abilities, and adaptations of their creations. As the novel ends, many of the visitors to the park have died. What is so disturbing to the survivors and investigators is the evidence that some of the creatures have developed the ability to reproduce and to survive outside of the park setting.

The film prompts one to explore the motives and responsibility for the experiment, as well as the consequences.

  1. It’s not possible because the structure of DNA can’t keep in conditions to be clone after ten thousand years; considering the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs crashed 66 million years ago, it’s impossible find DNA to perform scientist tests.

It’s an amazing film, I remember when I was child that movie impressed me; I really wanted to go through Jurassic Park.

    1. Excellent! And you are totally right, it is indeed impossible to clone a dinosaur. However, this classic film has captivated generations of cinema fans with the breathtaking production and thrilling plot. Do you have a favorite dinosaur you would like to see first?
