Unity in design occurs when the elements in a space work together in such a way that the resulting look is balanced and harmonious. It is difficult to achieve unity without harmony. Harmony is accomplished by the repetition of a particular design element, such as color, shape, texture, etc… that harmony is what creates the sense of unity. DIY’ers beware, too much unity in a room can lack personality and interest.
So what do unity & harmony look like in interior design?
A space would definitely not have the same feel, it depends on the designer and the elements he has. Through the use of similarly colored and textured materials a space could have harmony. Unity and harmony are achieved through the use of repetition in the colors and the materials used.
Using the same color in different intensities and items in a similar scale you can give a room a restful feel with visual interest.
Unity could be found in a space through the use of same chairs and repeating the colors of the chairs in the artwork. Now let’s check link below (source) to analyze some pictures and see if they have harmony and unity.
