Education in Malaysia

Learnex, English Forever ¡Aprende Inglés para Siempre!

Education in this country is very important and not as easy to get as in other countries. Having primary and secondary grades compulsory, they need to cover this in order to have their basic levels of education. If they want to get a higher level, it is necessary for them to reach the required academic grades to fund their education, if not it won’t be possible to continue.

Schools in Malaysia have two systems, the private and the government sector, that follow the national curriculum of education that let children from any system to be at the same level no matter the school they attend to.

Funding higher education can happen in two main ways, on the one hand a student from private school has to fund his/her own fees to get to university, on the other hand people from government schools can ask for a loan or a scholarship from the public or private sector.

  • Compulsory: Necessary by law.
  • Fund: To provide the money to pay an activity or event.
  • Loan: Money that is lent and has to be paid with taxes.
  • Fee: An amount of money paid to get a service.

Whenever you learn a new word, use it as much as possible, in that way it will be easier for you to use it when needed.

  • How can you compare this system to the one in Mexico?

    • Compulsory Primary School (7-12 years) is divided into two phases of three years.
    • Secondary Education (13-17 years) is divided into first cycle of secondary (3 years) and upper secondary (2 years)
    • Post-secondary education (age 17-18) preparation for students who want to attend college.
