Body Smart: Practice Doing Impromptu Dramatic Mime Activities

Learnex, English Forever ¡Aprende Inglés para Siempre!

It has  been widely argued that  speech makes up only  a  fraction of Human Communication. The researcher Albert Mehrabian famously broke it down as follows:

  • 55% of communication is through Body Language.
  • 38% tone of voice.
  • 7% relies on the meaning of the actual words themselves.

Regardless  of  the  actual  figures,  it  is  known  that  much  if  the  communication  isn´t  verbal. Facial expressions, hand gestures and Body Language are essential elements of how we communicate with one another.

Here are some techniches that you can carry out:

1.-CAN YOU TELL WHAT IT IS YET: Try  to  mime  some  activities  so  that  your  classmates  can  guess  the  occupation.  The  first  person  to  guess  takes the  next  turn  by  picking  a  card.

2.-STORY PERFORMANCE: Try to perform a story of your own live. Topics such as: My most embarrassing moment”, or “The Scariest Day of my Life” can inspire some wonderful performances.

3.-HOT SEATING: You can pick a character of any movie.  In this activity,  you´re gonna be  asked  some  question  based  on  the  character  that  you  chose.  The question can be about different is sues related to the character.

4.-INMPROVISATION: Use simple situations that aren´t overly time-consuming and  can also be employed  frequently, and adapted to  the themes and  topics that you´re currently  working on.

5.-DRAMA GRAB BAG-SYNCHRONIZED STORY TELLING: Work in pairs to tell a story. One of your classmates tells you a story orally while you act it out.  Then, you can swap.  You can combine this activity with a creative writing task. You may incorporate crops and items of clothing to make it funnier.

  • Perform: Carry out, accomplish or fulfill.
  • Regardless: Without paying attention to the present situation, despite the prevailing circumstances.
  • Theme: The subject of a talk, a piece of writing.
  • Impromptu: Done without being planned.

Try to act out a scene from your favorite movie.

  • Have you tried to carry out some drama techniques?
