Mongol Biyelgee, Mongolian Traditional Folk Dance, is a beautiful, outstanding and ancient form of the traditional performing arts of Mongolia, however, it is not only a performing art but also has an important role in festivities, traditions and customs; it is a lifestyle.
This dance is performed by dancers from different ethnic groups from all over the country, it is celebrated in traditional costumes during feasts, weddings, family or work related ceremonies and, since it was originated from the nomadic way of life, its performance is usually confined to the nomadic dwellings.
As the “Biyelgee” is celebrated during happy events, it is meant to obnubilate desagreements and violence. In fact, it has also been such a good impact when it comes to gather and allow communities to dialogue and respect each other’s differences. That proves, from a rational viewpoint, art (considering all its forms and expressions) is a bridge between different human cultures. Therefore, Mongolian Government has decreed and implemented successfully a National Safeguard Plan of the “Mongolian Traditional Folk Dance: Biyelgee”.
We must protect this artistic expression of love and friendship, it is part of our common heritage as human beings promoting family unity and mutual understanding among humanity.
